There isn’t a single winner. Etsy brings shoppers and charges listing and transaction fees. Gumroad and Payhip publish their own rates. Quay skips the marketplace and pays your Stripe account.
Etsy is a marketplace. Quay is not. Etsy’s fees policy, read 8 Oct 2026, charges $0.20 to list and 6.5% when it sells, plus payment processing. US Etsy Payments is 3% plus $0.25. The calculator adds those up for a price and a sales count. Offsite Ads are extra and are not in that math.
Stay on Etsy if the search traffic is the reason the file sells. Use Quay when you already know where the buyer will come from.
Gumroad’s pricing page, read 28 Sep 2026, is 10% plus $0.50 on a direct sale, and they describe themselves as merchant of record. Payhip’s pricing page, read 8 Oct 2026, is 5% on the free plan, $29 a month plus 2% on Plus, and $99 a month with no Payhip transaction fee on Pro. PayPal and Stripe fees are extra there, and Payhip says it handles EU VAT and UK VAT.
Quay’s Harbor fee is whatever this server publishes, often a percent and no monthly charge. Studio is a monthly plan that can lower that percent. Quay does not calculate sales tax or EU VAT, and it does not offer PayPal. The charge is a direct charge on your Stripe Connect account.
A hosted page, a file that is not sitting on an open URL, an email after payment, and a way to refund and revoke the link. Quay does those. It does not stream video, stamp PDFs, or import another catalog. If those are the job, pick the tool that does them.
No. Run the calculator for Etsy, and read the live Harbor percent on the pricing page. Stripe’s processing fee is extra on Quay and is not in the Harbor number. A marketplace can still be worth its fee if it brings the buyer.
