Quay

Platform pricing

Harbor takes a cut of a sale. Studio is a monthly plan.

Quay is paid by sellers, not by a marketplace cut of someone else’s discovery. A buyer’s card is charged on the seller’s Stripe account. Quay keeps an application fee on that charge, or a Studio subscription that lowers the fee. Stripe’s processing fee is billed to the connected account on top of either plan.

Pricing questions

What does Quay charge a seller?

Harbor has no monthly fee. Quay keeps an application fee on each paid order. Studio is a monthly subscription on the platform Stripe account and lowers that fee. Stripe’s own processing fees are billed to the connected account. The current Harbor and Studio amounts are on the pricing page and come from the server environment.

Who receives the buyer’s payment?

The seller does. Checkout is a direct charge on that seller’s Stripe Connect account, so the money lands on their Stripe balance. Quay can keep an application fee on the same charge. Quay is not the merchant of record.

Is Stripe in test mode?

Yes, unless you opt in. An sk_test_ key uses Stripe test mode and does not move real money. An sk_live_ key is ignored unless STRIPE_ALLOW_LIVE=true. Paid checkout on the production site stays closed until a Stripe secret is set. A local or preview server can still finish a simulated checkout with no card charged.

Do I need a card to open a store?

No. Signup is email and password. Harbor does not ask for a card. You connect Stripe before a buyer can pay a real charge, and Studio is optional.

These amounts are the prices this server publishes. An operator changes them with QUAY_FREE_PLAN_FEE_BPS, QUAY_PAID_PLAN_MONTHLY_CENTS, and QUAY_PAID_PLAN_FEE_BPS. More answers are on the FAQ.
