Quay

FAQ

What sellers ask before they connect Stripe.

These answers match the product as it runs. Fees on the pricing page are the amounts this server is configured to charge.

What does Quay charge a seller?

Harbor has no monthly fee. Quay keeps an application fee on each paid order. Studio is a monthly subscription on the platform Stripe account and lowers that fee. Stripe’s own processing fees are billed to the connected account. The current Harbor and Studio amounts are on the pricing page and come from the server environment.

Who receives the buyer’s payment?

The seller does. Checkout is a direct charge on that seller’s Stripe Connect account, so the money lands on their Stripe balance. Quay can keep an application fee on the same charge. Quay is not the merchant of record.

How does the buyer get the file?

After payment, Quay writes the order and emails a download page. The link expires after a number of hours and a number of downloads. Both limits are set on the store, and a product can be stricter. The seller can resend the page or mint a fresh link from the order.

Can I sell a license key?

Yes. A license product can generate a key on each order or hand out the next code from a pool you upload. One key leaves with the order. POST /api/v1/licenses/validate tells your app whether that key is still good.

Can I run a discount or an affiliate?

Discount codes are percent or a fixed amount, with an optional expiry, use limit, and single product. Affiliates get a signup link, a 30-day referral cookie, and a commission you mark paid by hand.

How do refunds work?

From the order, the seller can refund a paid charge. In Stripe mode that refund is created on the connected account and the subscription is canceled when the order is a membership. The download grant is revoked and issued license keys are marked revoked. A refund that starts in the Stripe Dashboard does the same thing when the charge.refunded webhook arrives.

Does Quay calculate sales tax or EU VAT?

No. The seller is merchant of record on a direct Stripe charge. Quay does not add sales tax or EU VAT. If you need a platform to file that tax for you, this is the wrong tool.

Is Stripe in test mode?

Yes, unless you opt in. An sk_test_ key uses Stripe test mode and does not move real money. An sk_live_ key is ignored unless STRIPE_ALLOW_LIVE=true. Paid checkout on the production site stays closed until a Stripe secret is set. A local or preview server can still finish a simulated checkout with no card charged.

How large can an upload be?

Each file stops at 20 MB. A product can include more than one file under that cap.

Do I need a card to open a store?

No. Signup is email and password. Harbor does not ask for a card. You connect Stripe before a buyer can pay a real charge, and Studio is optional.
