Price digital products

Price the download from the buyer’s outcome, then check the fee on that number.

A file does not have a unit cost that sets the price. Start from what the buyer is trying to finish, put a dollar amount on the product, and see what Harbor, Studio, and an Etsy-style fee leave you.

A practical sequence

Write down the job the file does: a planner week, a cut file, a template, a license. Look at what you would pay for that job, then pick a price you can say out loud. Paid charges under $0.50 are not accepted. A price of $0 is a free order and still delivers the file.

Pay-what-you-want is the version with a floor instead of one number. A discount code is a temporary lower price with an expiry and a use limit, scoped to one product if you want.

  1. 01. Choose the price in dollars on the product form.
  2. 02. Open the Etsy fee calculator if you also sell on Etsy, and type that same price.
  3. 03. Read Harbor’s live percent on the pricing page. The fee is that percent of the paid total, not a listing fee.
  4. 04. If the percent on your volume is larger than Studio’s month, compare those two bills before you subscribe.

What not to copy

Do not copy a marketplace price and ignore the fee stack. Etsy’s $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, and US processing are a different bill from Harbor’s application fee. Stripe’s card fee is extra on Quay and is not inside Harbor’s percent.

Do not promise a conversion rate. Quay does not have a public average price, and this page will not invent one.

Change the price later

Edit the product and save. The public page uses the new amount. Orders already paid stay at the amount that was charged. A membership’s recurring price is the Stripe price created for that product.

Questions

Should a short printable cost less than a long one?

Only if the buyer’s job is smaller. Page count is a weak proxy. Price the outcome, then confirm the platform fee on that price is a number you can accept.

Does a higher price raise Harbor’s fee?

Yes. Harbor’s fee is a percentage of the paid total. A $40 sale pays twice the application fee of a $20 sale at the same percent.
