Pay what you want

Let the buyer name a price, above a minimum you set.

A pay-what-you-want product asks for an amount at or above your minimum. The file is delivered the same way as a fixed-price download: an emailed page that expires.

Set the floor

On the product, choose pay-what-you-want and set the minimum. The public page asks the buyer for a dollar amount. Amounts from $0.01 through $0.49 are rejected. A price of $0 is a free order and still completes. A paid amount has to be at least $0.50.

The rest of the product is a normal download: one or more files, a description, and a cover if you add one. A discount code can still apply. If the code would push a paid total under $0.50 but not to zero, checkout refuses it.

Delivery does not change with the amount

Whether they pay the minimum or more, the buyer gets the same files. The link uses the store’s expiry and download cap, or a stricter cap on that product. Each file has to be 20 MB or smaller.

You can see the amount they chose on the order. You can resend the page, reset the link, or refund the charge. A refund revokes the download.

Your fee follows the amount they paid

Harbor’s application fee is a percentage of the paid total, so a higher gift is a higher fee. Studio’s percentage is the lower configured rate, often zero, plus the monthly plan. Stripe’s processing fee is based on the charge and is billed to your connected account. The percentages are on the pricing page.

Questions

Can the minimum be zero?

Yes. A $0 checkout completes without a card charge and still delivers the file. If you set a minimum, the buyer has to meet it, and a paid charge under $0.50 is not accepted.

Do I need a monthly plan to offer pay-what-you-want?

No. Harbor and Studio include the same product types. The plan changes the platform fee, not the product form.
