Gumroad fees

What Gumroad publishes for a digital download.

The numbers below are from Gumroad’s pricing page, read 28 Sep 2026. Recheck that page before you treat them as current. This page does not add a newer Gumroad rate on top of that read.

Direct sale and Discover

Gumroad’s pricing page says a direct sale is 10% plus $0.50. On a $20 download that is $2.50. A new customer who buys through Discover is 30% instead. Those are different charges. A link you send yourself is the direct rate. A sale Gumroad originates can be the Discover rate.

Gumroad describes itself as merchant of record. The payout is not a direct charge on a Stripe account you connect inside Quay. Quay’s model is the opposite: the buyer pays your Stripe account, and Quay keeps an application fee.

Harbor on the same price

Harbor has no $0.50 flat platform fee and no monthly fee. The application fee is a percent of the paid order, shown on the pricing page. Stripe’s processing fee is extra and is not inside that percent. Studio can replace most or all of the application fee with a monthly subscription. The live Studio price is on the same page.

Do not read Harbor’s percent as a promise that the total is lower. A small sale can make Stripe’s flat processing fee larger than the difference between 10% plus $0.50 and Harbor’s percent. Use the pricing page on the price you actually charge.

Leaving the file where it is

Quay will not copy the Gumroad product. Upload the file, set the price, and connect Stripe. The download page expires after the hours and the download count you set. A refund revokes the link.

Each file stops at 20 MB. A larger set can be two products in a bundle.

Questions

Is the $2.50 example Gumroad’s whole bill on a $20 sale?

It is 10% of $20 plus $0.50, the direct rate on the pricing page read 28 Sep 2026. It is not the Discover rate. Discover is 30% when that rate applies. Recheck Gumroad’s page before you use another number.

Does Quay take 10% plus $0.50?

No. That pair of numbers is Gumroad’s direct fee. Harbor is the percent on the pricing page, with no separate $0.50 platform fee. Stripe processing is still charged by Stripe.

What Harbor costs: no monthly fee. Quay keeps 5% of each paid order ($1.00 on a $20.00 sale), plus Stripe's own processing fee on your account.
